Visit to San Sebastián

On May 4th, the Spanish students and the British students, accompanied by two British teachers, a Spanish teacher and an American language assistant visited the beautiful coastal city of San Sebastián. During the morning, the group visited the Museo de las ciencias, also known as the Science Museum, where they had a guided tour and enjoyed the ¨hair raising¨ exhibit on electricity.

Later in the afternoon, the students had time to relax and explore the city, although most took this as an opportunity to sunbathe on one of the best beaches that Spain has to offer.

Visit to Redditch (England)

Day 1 Arrival
We left Burgos at 7:30 am to go to Madrid and begin our
adventure. We were very excited to meet our English partners. After stopping in Amsterdam, we arrived in Birmingham around 6 pm and Sarah, the director of the program, found us at the airport. Once we got on the bus, Pete the bus driver took us to an Italian restaurant, where we met our partners: Ashleigh, Siobhan, Ben, James, Rhys and Jessica and the English teachers. At first, it was difficult to communicate with them because we were nervous and they spoke quickly, but by the end of dinner we were more confident and we started talking with them. After dinner, we were all very tired and we were happy to go to the hotel and sleep.

Day 2 Business meeting

We woke up and after breakfast at the hotel Pete took us to school. At school, we went to the staff room and then we visited the school and it was awesome. The school had a hairdresser's, a gym and even a room with trampolines! Then, we went to the center of Redditch to start our project of creating a gym. First we visited the bank, where they explained to us how to finance a gym. Next we went to the recruitment agency where they explained to us how to select people to work in our gym. The third meeting was at a local gym, where a trainer showed us how a gym runs. His accent was difficult to understand, but we still learned a lot. After the meetings, we went back to school and we took our suitcases to go to our new homes for the week. We were all very nervous!
At 6 pm we all met at McDonalds to have dinner and celebrate David's birthday. After cake we went to the cinema and saw Paul, which was a funny film but difficult at times to understand. When the movie was over, we all went home to relax, talk with our families and go to bed.

Overall, day 2 was very tiring but we were very excited to work on the project.

Day 3 Work, work, work

We woke up in our new houses and had cereal with cold milk for the first time! We were surprised to learn that they didn't have ColaCao and that they didn't warm the milk up in the microwave!

Once we were at the school we went to the computer room and we played a game. Then we started the project in two groups and we created a logo for our gym, found a location for our gym and selected our staff. When we finished the project we showed Burgos to our partners through Google Earth. After we had lunch at school we gave our partners a Spanish class. We taught them basic vocabulary, phrases and customs such as 'tengo hambre,' 'jamón,' and about 'la siesta.' Then they took us to the shopping center of Redditch. We bought some clothes. Later some of us went to have dinner to McDonalds again and to Rhys' house to play xBox games and had a lot of fun.

After that we all went to our houses and watched TV. And we went to sleep early because we were very tired.

Day 3 was a fun day.

Day 4 Presentations and visit to Sratford.

On Wednesday we finished our projects in the morning. Before going to Stratford, the two groups presented their projects. In our presentations we explained how our gyms would work including employees, the layout, the hours and the financial plan.

After the presentations we got on the bus with Pete and went to Stratford, the birthplace of Shakespeare. Stratford was very traditional English with little houses and a river with boats.

When we crossed the river to go to the town, we first stopped at the statues honoring Shakespeare and the characters from his plays such as Lady Macbeth and Hamlet.

Then we went to the Globe Theatre where we saw where they perform Shakespeare's plays.

Next we went to Shakespeare's house and on the way we walked by lots of stores and an ice cream shop where we later got delicious milkshakes.

Then we returned to Redditch. Our partners took us to the shopping center where we Ben's grandfather showed us how the cinema works. We saw the machines they use to proyect the images. We also took some photos.

Then we went back home where we had dinner with our families. We tasted fish and chips a typical English food.

We went to the bowling center and we played bowling. We made two teams and we started playing the game, it was very fun.
After that, we played pool and to some machines like motorbike games or basketball.
Then we went home and sleep because we were very tired.
